For those that don’t know, DVT is deep vein thrombosis. Diets that are low in vitamin K consumption can result in this imbalance.

Can vitamin K deficiency cause DVT?

Vitamin K plays an imperative role in the body as it is essential for blood clotting. If vitamin K levels are too low, then this can lead to vitamin K deficiency.

Vitamin K helps with blood clotting by activating proteins that take part in coagulation. These proteins are called coagulation factors.

Vitamin K deficiency can lead to impaired blood clotting, which in turn increases the risk of suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

This is because vitamin K helps make these proteins that are required for coagulation, so vitamin K deficiency reduces the ability of the body to form clots.

What is deep vein thrombosis?

(DVT) is a blood clot in the deep veins of the lower limbs caused by deep vein thrombosis. DVT is the formation of a blood clot deep in the veins, usually around the calf or thigh.
