The EU is in full effect

To be clear, Apple is turning a new leaf. Under the Digital Markets Act, Apple has declared its endorsement of Alternative App Distribution in the European Union.

Support for third-party app stores is not something that the organization has any immediate intentions of implementing globally.

With the modifications introduced by the DMA, iOS 17.4 and later permit users in the EU to install applications from alternative app marketplaces. No longer are the days of jailbreaking.

Through the marketplace developer’s website, users will have the ability to obtain an alternative marketplace application.

After accepting applicable business terms for apps in the EU via developer.apple.com, developers can gain access to these distribution options through App Store Connect.

Beta releases of Xcode 15.3 and iOS 17.4 are now available for developers to utilize these options. Commencing in March 2024, the modifications will be accessible to consumers across the 27 member states of the European Union.
