Apple Wallet Mobile IDs To Launch in Illinois 2025.
Apple Wallet will support Illinois driver’s licenses and IDs by the end of 2025, according to the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.
Kind of scary to think we have come this far with technology.
A statute that backs the Secretary of State’s efforts to update its services, HB 4592, gave the go-ahead for the office to start creating digital IDs. According to the office, mobile IDs shall function in tandem with physical cards.
The Illinois Secretary of State’s office is currently finalizing plans to debut the integration of Apple Wallet with driver’s licenses and IDs for Illinois residents by the end of the year.
With this feature, users can safely add and display their state IDs and driver’s licenses in person or through apps on their Apple Watch or iPhone.
In addition to Arizona, Colorado, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio, and Puerto Rico, 10 other states and territories will also enable Apple Wallet IDs. Illinois is not one of them.
Mobile IDs and driver’s licenses will soon be compatible with more digital wallets, and the state has plans to add compatibility for more, such as Google Wallet for Android users.
